The Golden Chariot of the Moon (a.k.a. Cranial Archaeology Volume 1) is a musical response to the most
spectacular full moon I've ever seen. While living in Trinidad, California, I was fortunate enough to
live overlooking the Pacific ocean. One morning around 6 a.m. I awoke to one of the most beautiful sights
I've ever seen. The Full moon was a glowing with a golden light that reflected on the ocean and illuminated the morning fog with a strange silver/gold spectral light.
Similarly, while living in San Rafael, California the year before, my wife and I woke up early one morning to find a very large owl perched on our patio deck, staring up into our bedroom window. I had never seen an owl that closely before and it was an amazing experience just watching this magnificent creature watching us, craning its neck and then taking flight back into the woods. The rest of the day took on a strange, elated quality that I still remember today. This visitation of the wild remains one of my fondest memories.
This disc is an attempt to describe those experiences sonically as well as an assemblage of odds and ends left around the studio (the usual drones and other tone experiments). A much calmer affair than the BlackLight Collision Window material. To listen to samples, click here or follow the individual track links below.
